A Trip to Bheemeshwari

I have always been a sports enthusiast and any kind of physical activity gives me a rush. So when some senior colleagues from work decided that for a team outing we’ll be going for a trek and white water rafting, I was super excited. It was a one day trip to a place called the Bheemeshwari Fishing and Nature Camp, 100 km outside the city of Bangalore.

We started out early morning because we wanted to be able to make the most of the daylight time that we had. It took us 4 hrs to reach our destination. Living in metros for the past 7 years, the only jungle I was used to was the concrete kind, being in Bheemeshwari felt like being in a different world. The fresh air, the trees, the beautiful river; the whole scene was so serene and calming. I could feel the difference in the air. After lying around on the hammocks by the river, we decided to start our trek. I stayed ahead of the rest of the pack through most of the trek because I couldn’t wait to see the breath taking view from the top of the hill.

Once on top I realized that my expectations did not do justice to the scene that awaited me. The scene that I saw was much more than I had expected it to be, it looked straight out of a movie, the beautiful river Cauvery in the middle of the beautiful green hills, and the ideal backdrop for a brilliant weekend. Once back to the lodge we were informed that delicious lunch awaited us. After a stomach full of lunch everyone wanted to laze around for a while so it was back to the hammocks for everyone.

Once we let the food settle it we were off for some white water rafting, so we grabbed our boats and paddles and life jackets. After a brief session with our guide about the techniques we were all in the water. I am not a swimmer so being in the water was a little intimidating but I relaxed as soon as we hit the wild waves. The adrenalin was pumping and I was having a great time. When I looked around myself, I felt one with nature. When we finished the 8 km stretch we were picked up by the lodge jeep waiting at the other end which took us back to the lodge. Though this was my shortest trip ever, it was more fun than any other trip that I’ve taken

Bheemeshwari Camp also offers overnight packages. You can choose to stay in the make shift tented- cottages or the log-huts and enjoy activities such as Fishing, white water rafting, kayaking, snorkelling etc. For anyone interested in adventure, this is an ideal holiday spot which is not too heavy on your pocket. It’s also a good place to head to when you want to take a break from the busy city life and get some fresh air. The place also offers sights and sounds of the rich wildlife in the area which include leopards, Elephants, Wild Pigs, Deer etc. It’s an endeavour of the Karnataka tourism department to popularize Eco tourism and preserving the rich abundant gifts of nature.
