Founded by Bill Drayton in 1980, Ashoka Innovators for the Public is a bustling hub of the largest network of social entrepreneurs.
How, you might ask?
Ashoka Innovators, has for the past 35 years, provided living stipends, professional support services, and connections to a global network of over 3,000 leading social entrepreneurs in more than 70 countries. Ashoka is the largest association of social entrepreneurs with system changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems and a platform for the growing global network of people dedicated to creating an Everyone A Changemaker™ world.
They have been known to support social entrepreneurs like Goonj founder Anshu Gupta and eminent personalities like Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarathi and many other such visionaries. The current scenario in the world is abysmal to say the least, filled with so many social challenges. Ashoka aims at turning every individual into a change maker who will address these problems of the world and contribute to the bigger picture of system change.
Youth Venture program shares the Ashoka vision of an Everyone A Changemaker™ world: a world that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges and each young individual has the freedom, confidence, and social support to drive positive change. These are people are driven towards leading an ecosystem of changemakers, innovators, thinkers, leaders and above all doers. These people are considered as the torchbearers of change.
Ashoka Innovators has a view of mobilizing the huge youth population of this country, people who are really passionate to take action to solve the menacing problems the nation is currently facing.
The Youth Venture program is specifically designed to identify such young individuals, who have acted against any social challenge that they might have faced. It can be in the form of either a social business or a non-profit organization.
“We identify these individuals, recognize them as Ashoka youth ventures, after a complete screening process, and then for a year we invest in them; in terms of training them with leadership skills, providing them mentorship from the best social entrepreneurs around the world. We also help them connect with potential resource people who can help them further build their skills” says Yashveer Singh, who heads the Youth venture program at Ashoka Innovators.
Over the next 6 months, they plan to select 50 such individuals so that young individuals can enhance and engage their social entrepreneurship skills. It seeks to engage, recognize, collaborate and invest in these young individuals to actively contribute to global change through the initiatives of every single individual and build a powerful inter-sector social entrepreneurship hub.
Ashoka Innovators has launched the Youth Venture program to recognize efforts of young individuals (between the ages of 12- 24) who have started innovative projects/ventures demonstrating social impact.
The foremost quality of a social entrepreneur is that one must be possessed by an idea. According to Bill Drayton, also known as the Father of Social Entrepreneurship – “a social entrepreneur is not content with just pitching an idea or teaching people how to execute that idea, they are married to the idea in the true sense of the word. They will not rest till they have completely revolutionized that idea!”
The primary idea is to engineer social change by setting up a sustainable and active support system for upcoming social entrepreneurs who are looking to bring a frame change in the society.
