The 9th Auto Expo held at Pragati Maidan this year, has been a big and grand event. It saw immense International participation and has been as much more popular compared to the previous one. Ratan Tata fulfilled his promise of giving India and the world the cheapest car, Nano .But one day before the launch of Nano, Bajaj launched their first car which was also low cost. However it failed to have any effect on the exuberance for the much-hyped Nano. It was undoubtedly the Nano, which was the star of the show and as soon as it was unveiled, it became the apple of everyone’s eye. It claims to be the cheapest car with a price tag of Rs. 1 lakh plus taxes.
Every newspaper of the world wrote about this car and it has become the talk of the town. However, lost in the Nano craze, there are several other cars that have not been given the media coverage they deserve. The costliest Indian car, The Ambierod, a product of Dilip Chhabria and his DC Automobiles carries a cool price tag of Rs. 4 crore. As the man says, the car has been inspired by the iconic Ambassador. It certainly has all the qualities to be a rich man’s prized possession. Launched on 10th January, by Sanjay ’Munnabhai’ Dutt, it’s a 3-seater having 3 LCD screens of various sizes so that you can sit back and enjoy your favorite movies and music. This car also boasts of internet mobility, video conferencing and an advanced satellite navigation system to tell the car’s location. The car has a leg space of 4 feet and the rear seat can be converted to flat beds like those of a jet airplane. Ambierod also has rear vision door camera, Xenon and LED and mood lightening. Its plush interiors resemble that of a first class jet liner. Undoubtedly, it is a class apart. DC Automobiles is also subsequently launching a super sports car, DC: S, in the lines of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Other than these cars, many others made their presence felt at the Auto Expo. General Motors came up with Captiva, Cadillac CTS, Hummer H3, Chevrolet Sequel, Chevrolet T2X and Chevrolet WTCC Ultra. TVS motors launched its new two wheelers like RTR 160 F1 Apache, Electric three-wheeler, Scooty F1, CNG bike, CNG three-wheeler. Mahindra showcased the bio-diesel, hybrid, hydrogen vehicles, along with Scorpio, Bolero, and an Electric three-wheeler, and an Alfa passenger three-wheeler. Honda India showcased all its current production along with new Accord, Civic Hybrid, a small concept car and an F1 car .Along with Nano, Tata Motors also showcased Indica, Indigo, Sumo, TL sprint, Elegante, Cliffrider. Besides these, other companies like Daimer Chrysler Renault, Maruti, Hyundai, Fiat, Volswagen, Skoda, Audi, BMW, Mitubishi and Nissan have also launched cars in the luxury segment.
The 9th Auto Expo has something for everyone from the Tata’s Nano to the DC’s Ambierod. The Auto Expo has been immensely successful with the exciting variety of tech-savvy automobiles that has left everyone spell bound.
