Bollywood and fashion trends are like best friends. They can’t live without each other. And neither can we. Ever since the people have understood the meaning of fashion, Bollywood has been their best source to look up for staying stylish according to the trend. Whether it is hair styles, clothes or unique accessories, our films never seize to experiment. Infact with every decade gone, we’ve become more and more fashionable and more importantly fashion conscious.
So looking back at our legendary style divas and their equally handsome heroes with their distinctive couture, one can get a sneak peek in the trends of bygone era. The times have changed, but have we changed? The fans always remain the same. They blindfoldly imitate their heroes in every possible way, even if their style is something that can be described as just a plain look! However, in those times, it were the fans who became torch bearers of such fashion styles and filled the pages of fashion history for posterity.
Going back in the 60’s, actors like Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari were popular for their roles and acting skills, rather than their dressing sense. However, moving on, a better picture of style was given to us by Rajesh Khanna. He was rage in his times, with his charm, safari suits, Guru Kurtas, and the unique hair do, girls used to go crazy after him, while guys would attempt to imitate him in every possible way. While for females, it was Mala Sinha, who with her tight churidaars kicked off the trend of figure hugging salwar suits.
If early 60’s, you think was little dull and boring, the late 60’s became just the opposite, nothing less than daring for those times! Nutan and Tanuja became the trendsetters of swimming costumes as they were the first ones to shed the inhibitions and flaunt a much bold look as compared to contemporaries of their times.
Then there was Jeetender with his ‘White from top to bottom” look. His unique style instantly reminded of him, whenever anybody would wear a white…
As the years passed, a fresh breed of fashion designers arrived in our Bollywood industry and fashion got its new avatar. Industry got its super stars like Amitabh Bachhan, Rishi Kapoor, Vinod khanna, and Rakesh Roshan. With them arrived the bellbottoms, frilly shirts, and platform heeled footwears… On the other hand, their female counterparts were not behind either… Actresses like Rekha and Sridevi became style divas of their times with chiffon sarees and puffed sleeve tops. Jaya Prada was mostly remembered for her silk sarees.
After them arrived our brand conscious breed of actors and actresses. Gucci, Louis vitton, Prada became the style statements for every star. From Shahrukh’s kuch kuch hota hai college jackets to Kajol’s simran look in DDLJ, from Karishma’s chic gymming outfits in DTPH to Kareena size zero look in most of her films today, the fashion scene has truly arrived in the country. Everybody is flaunting it and paying for it…
As we move ahead, Bollywood would continue to take the responsibility of keeping us updated…
