Aarakshan

‘Aarakshan’ the movie released on 12 August 2011 is one of Prakash Jha’s typical engrossing on one of the other social factors gripping the society. Self proclaimed socio-political drama captures a burning issue of today’s Rising India. It is conceptualized on the caste based reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. But finally lands on providing equal education to the children of all classes and sects.

‘Always Kabhi Kabhi’, a Review

Always Kabhi Kabhi is about a group of four school friends. Sameer/Sam (Ali Fazal), Aishwarya/Aishu (Giselli Monteiro), Tariq Naqvi/Einstein (Satyajeet Dubey) and Nandini/Nandy Bull (Zoa Morani) are buddies studying in St. Marks. Each of them has one or the other problem with one or both of his/her parents.

The Reservation of Thoughts

The movie “Aarakshan” is the new hot potato. It is surrounded by all sorts of controversies, right from the speculation of being anti-reservation to containing dialogues that might stir proletariat sentiments. The apprehensions regarding the release of the movie are appreciable in the sense that this is the liberty that a democratic form of government endorses. But, at the same time, there is another aspect of the issue which is a much needed pabulum.

‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, Does Not Live up to Expectations

So when Hangover meets Dil Chahata Hai in Zoya Akhtar’s “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,” released in July 2011, it makes for a risky road adventure. The movie is set in Spain, which is a beautiful backdrop for the story which unfolds behind scenic landscapes, which often involve the usual song and dance. But you can’t complain when you have Shankar Ehsaaan Loy’s music and Hrihik’s moves.

Much Ado About Nothing

The movie “Aarakshan” is the new hot potato. It is surrounded by all sorts of controversies, right from the speculation of being anti-reservation to containing dialogues that might stir proletariat sentiments. The apprehensions regarding the release of the movie are appreciable in the sense that this is the liberty that a democratic form of government endorses. But, at the same time, there is another aspect of the issue, which is much needed pabulum. It is not that the masses have never thought or talked about the reservation issue before!

Song Review: Humne dekhi hain un Aankhon ki Mehekti Khusboo

We have often heard the proverb, “Old is Gold”. It holds true for Indian cinema. When it comes to old Hindi songs, one can’t forget the melody and music they enthuse. One such song, which captures your heart with awesome lyrics is “Humne Dekhi hain un aankho ki mehekti Khusboo.” This beautiful song is from the film Khamoshi. The film was directed by Asit Sen and released in 1969 and went on to become a blockbuster.
Written by well known lyricist Gulzar and soulfully rendered by the “Voice of the millennium”.

Stanley and the many intricacies about his ‘Dabba’!!

‘Stanley ka Dabba’ movie entices you the moment it heralds with an animated duo of a monstrous wretched man and his tussle with a kido, all for a dabba (Tiffin box) with the poor lad looking forth an escapade by drawing caricature of sorts and thus devising a nouveau way every time to fool the man with long hair, hinting subtly to what we can expect in the plot about to unfold.

Tickling Delhi’s Belly

The movie starts with the camera zoomed in at Kunal Roy’s but crack. What follows is a series of mellifluous fart sounds. Forgive me for skipping through the movie a little, but in one of the action scenes, amidst the heavy gun firing you can still hear him fart!

The Beginning of the End for Pixar?

It’s Pixar’s 25th anniversary and what it has offered on this momentous occasion has failed to live up to expectations. While the first movie was termed as one of Pixar’s weakest movies, this movie has easily taken over the mantle. From a predictable story line to a role reversal of characters, Cars 2 has all the making of Pixar’s halt in the production of world-class movies. From a studio that has produced blockbusters like Toy Story, Wall-E, Findin Nemo and Up, we really did expect nothing short of an impending blockbuster.
