Do natural disasters deserve more attention than man-made one’s?

While, the threats of a nuclear fall-out, borne out of a tragedy that happened in the Fakushima Nuke Plant in Japan, started a debate about the positives and negatives of nuclear energy. The media completely ignored the protests and the cries that were being carried out (in fact, for the last 10 to 15 years) in Northern Kerala as well as Southern Karnataka to ban the Pesticide Endosulfan.

The Paradise called Chilika

This year seems to be much more happening than I expected. I realized it when I got an invitation from a senior colleague to attend his marriage at Bhubaneshwar. Hidden was another invitation to revisit the Puri-beach and also the Chilika Lake.

In a faraway land, Bollywood…

While the Bollywood movies today are practical, urban, youthful addressing social issues and are closer to reality, the movies of the past are artistic, stirring, melodic, famed and celebrated. Being a hundred percent desi at heart, I can crave for Bollywood spice come any day. Bollywood is loved not only in India but across the world and that it is one of the largest producer of films globally justifies it. But what aches my heart these days is the kind of message we are giving out to the next generation. Open relationships, slang lingo and romance driven by sex in movies these days have changed the mindset of the youth.

Casting Aspersions

Is it right to question the integrity of people of a country based on what their democratically-elected government does? My opinion, based on the current global context, is that it is not correct. In this post, I will explain why. This is mainly in response to Great Bong’s post (link), in which he holds the opposite view. I respect his opinion as long as he is consistent. I will also relate this to blaming every bank employee (in Goldman Sachs etc.) for the banks’ role in the global economic crisis.

What the World Cup Meant to India

When was the last time you saw frenzied crowd on the road, completely lost under the spirit of being an Indian (some even draped under the Indian National Flag) hugging each other irrespective of caste, creed, economic status and (let me put in capital letters) RELIGION. Well not many events can bring the entire nation on the street and most of them that have in recent history, have been events of national sorrow (the 26/11 attack on Mumbai) or events of national anger (the Jessica Lal murder case).

McDonaldisation

McDonaldisation is the term I learnt through my sociology elective. In simple words it means the replication of the USP across the chain. Quite obviously the term originated from McDonalds, which ensures that our taste buds would never be able to differentiate the burgers of 2 different outlets from each other. The motive is to make every customer feel at home.

Effects of Advertising on Children

The ad filmmakers are formulating fresh ways of enticing consumers to buy products. If an advertisement for a product attracts the consumer, they tend to purchase it frequently, or at least buy it once. If a company has to survive in this competitive world, they have to project the image of their products in such a way that they pick up the maximum sales, when they hit stores.

Selling Cycles to Cycling

“No power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come” Dr. Manmohan Singh.

The same can be said for a company who is in India for the last 60 years and has served its people with iconic brand named BSA & HERCULES, T.I. Cycles of India.
The bicylce was invented by Baron Karl Von Drais in the early 19th century. His invention has been a mode of transportation for people of every age group. Whether it is going to the workplace or for recreation, cycle is a must.

Convergence of Brands and Technologies: What an Idea Sirjee?

“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”

Cut it for Memories

Second most fickle thing to politicians in India, is electricity or at least sometime back it used to be. Sitting alone at my desk one day when the electricity went off, I wandered into some very funny and delightful memories. I remembered the time when I was in school, when homework was the biggest worry. Well more worrisome was realizing it late in the evening and worse than that was the fact that lights went off as soon as I sat down to complete it. But somehow that no-light thing also brought an excitement with it, of spending some more time with friends in the neighbourhood, chatting, gossiping and playing dumb charades. Even adults were not spared. I remember how ghost stories sprang up instantly and aunties revised all the gossips they had completed discussing that day.
