Rainy Blues

The weather is not as predictable as we would believe it to be. Take yesterday as an example. The whole day the sun was bright and it was a normal warm day. Even the weather predictions on that I looked up on the internet showed sunny with slight clouds. Then out of nowhere the sky turned slate gray and the wind picked up.

Homophobia: India

Homosexuality is a topic smothered in discomfort in our nation. Be it in our college, community, household, and even social gatherings, people still treat it as a disease and pass judgments. Not only are these people narrow-minded, they are very opinionated about something that doesn’t concern them. Posting abusive statements, publicly making fun, and lecturing ‘loved’ ones who are homosexuals, our people just don’t learn.

India’s Got Class

Till class 10th, I was of the opinion that India is a diverse country, made up of Punjabis, Bengalis, Gujjus, Malyalis, Biharis etc. I was yet another naïve kid then. The truth, as I later realised, is that India consists of only three kinds of people – the common man (one of the 89.8 percent Indians who do not have the luxury of a blog), the man who thinks he is common, a.k.a., the “consumer” class, and the common inhu-man, known better as the “political” class.

Festive Fear

Girls like me usually feel safe indoors or in large well-known groups on special occasions and festivals. This is usually because people, large groups often get into a strange mob mentality. Bura naa maano Holi hai (don’t mind, it’s Holi) is a popular slogan, allowing people to smother you with colors, soak you with water, and come in any contact. Sure, it’s meant to be taken in festive way, but I personally wouldn’t want random men to touch me.

Age Of Progress?

The recent bill for amending anti rape laws had created a whirlwind of confusion and differences among the policy makers. While the government continued to battle over various clauses like stalking and other issues related to the criminal law ordinance; one of the amendments regarding “age of consent” caught my attention. The anti-rape law logjam had spurred a very interesting debate both within the government and among the citizens especially when it came to lowering the age of consensual sex.
