CIA Director Resigns: Blames His Poor Judgment

CIA Director David Petraeus resigned from his post due to his “poor judgment” of engaging in an extramarital affair.

A supposedly great man, who led his country through their toughest times, came tumbling down due to his undoing. Having served as the General of the US military and the Director of the CIA, Petraeus was instrumental in the Iraq war and the Afghanistan invasion of the United States of America.

Petraeus consolidated the position of the secret spy agency and after his sudden departure, the CIA walks on thin ice. Michael Morell, the agency’s long-time deputy director, is to act as the CIA chief for the immediate future.

“After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation,” said Petraeus.

While the CIA Director came clean with what he did, the Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi denied all the allegations against him in a similar controversy earlier this year. He said, “Since I am a disciplined party soldier, I did not think it fit to subject the party to any inconvenience on this account. All allegations are patently baseless and false.” He resigned from his post as the Congress Spokesperson and not because indulging in sexual activities in a court room is unethical, but to “prevent even the slightest possible parliamentary disruption regarding the purported CDs being circulated about” him. For the record, Singhvi was one of the people who were crying hoarse about morality when certain MLAs were caught watching porn on their mobile phones.

An extramarital affair is not something that happens by mistake; it is a conscious choice made by a person. It is, therefore, on you to choose to indulge in it, or not. When Petraeus is so high on his moral grounds as to leave his position as the Director of the CIA, where did this moral drive vanish when he was cheating on his wife?

The fact that Petraeus accepted his “mistake” is worth appreciating. However, this does not undermine the fact that he was disloyal to his wife. Leaving his job, thus, becomes an empty gesture.
