A recent tweet by Mr. Ramchandra Guha, known columnist and intellectual has caught the imagination of the youth. In a recent tweet, Mr. Guha has released a strongly worded statement and invited students and the youth of the country to come and sign it online in a step against the recent response by the government to the students and charging them under Section 124.A of the Indian Penal Code (Sedition).
For students: a judicious, well worded statement against the suppression of dissent: https://t.co/eAhD5DeAWz Read, sign, and pass the word.

In the recent series of incidents at JNU campus, New Delhi, protesting students have been arrested for anti-India protest. Kanhaiya Kumar, Anirban Bhattacharya and Umar Khalid have been taken into custody and have become famous, with famous personalities coming out in their defence and the defence of freedom of speech. They have been charged under the Sedition Law, first introduced into the IPC by the British in 1870.
Many have come out in protest of the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar, including many JNU teachers and eminent personalities. It has also been seen as a matter of concern for the sake of freedom of speech.
We can only hope this petition finds a listening ear in the present governing establishment.
