Commonwealth Games 2010

With approximately 493 days to go for the Commonwealth games to be held in Delhi, India is boosting up as a sporting nation. Athletes such as ace shooter Abhinav Bindra, boxer Vijendra kumar and wrestler Sushil Kumar who won accolades in the recent Beijing Olympics have heightened the expectations of the people of India and the forthcoming commonwealth games are now being looked forward to very keenly.

Commonwealth games will definitely help in bringing up sections such as culture, tourism, transport, public relations, economic development and most importantly sports.

There are 17 disciplines planned for the commonwealth games. Some of which are Aquatics, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Squash and Weightlifting. All the athletes are being provided with exuberant physical preparations. The games have so far attracted so many amateur as well as professional athletes. The players participating in the games will be recognized on the basis of their feat in the previous games like Asian games 2006, Commonwealth games 2006 and Olympics 2008.The sport persons are being trained under special Long Term Development Plans which are in talks with the National Sports Federations to provide the required assistance on the basis of previous records and doable targets.

For this, the stronger sections have been identified and are being given more consideration and the required inputs. A very methodical loom has been adopted likewise the four year roll on plan with which a continuous training will be provided to all the athletes and the required assistance will be given in all major fields of sports. Under such four year plans, athletes are even provided with psychological training in order to face the mental challenges, to avoid any kinds of disruptions, the pressure of performing under such a burden and expectations of many and are made proverbial with the elementary skills involved in the tasks. For a country or say economy like ours, where there are so many sections to be pondered upon, the sports sections are often ignored or left out. Major evidence was seen in the recent Olympics where athletes such as Abhinav Bindra had to do it on their own .But inspite of such hurdles;our country has evolved as an enhanced sporting nation. Infact now a lot more is done to encourage the players whether they be amateur or professionals taking part in the various sports events.

With the onset of the 2010 Commonwealth Games trends have changed a lot. Sports such as hop-skip and jump which were dropped way back are now being revived. Major attention is given to those kind of activities that would provide physical training at an age when physical exercises are needed not only for health but also to earn and run an economy, thus fulfilling two targets at a time. Earlier weight lifting was seen as a major activity that would cause back injuries but now successful treatments and preventions have been found to thwart them. Around 6.61 bn money has been spent on the physical training of the athletes. Government is felicitating the athletes who proved themselves as promising athletes. A request has also been made in order to provide the needy athletes with pensions. Now one can imagine the success of the commonwealth games 2010 that looked far from possible earlier when negligence was being shown by the government. But now government has promised to leave no stone unturned for the augmentation of our athletes. Statistics prove an attendance of 5000 athletes in the forthcoming games. Along with financial assistance and physical training, athletes will be provided with ultimate soothing comforts. They will be made to stay in luxurious hotels with a magnificent relaxing environment.

Commonwealth games along with the Olympics are one of the world’s largest sports events. So far, the countries which hosted these games benefited immensely in fields of economy, tourism, transport and culture. India is likely to expect the same. Moreover, the games would suffice the condition of the athletes also. The games will help world class management of the capital and will also ensure strong cultural impact on the arrangements. With more and more people visiting the city from throughout the world, there would be rise in the tourism facilities and a hospitality like never before would emerge. All the luxury hotels would benefit and will get a chance to showcase their efficiency in hospitality thus building a strong network with representatives of the international world.

Tourist visiting the city for games would also be sightseeing through the local mode of transport thereby strengthening our public transport. Moreover, during the games the segment of employment will also see a turnover. People seeking jobs may get to fulfill their needs through this major project. With this the economic returns will touch a new height. It’s proud to watch our country developing in every possible prospect and hopefully we will receive rave reviews in the coming years and there shall be no complains by the athletes in terms of assistance. It is great to see the Commonwealth games proving to be a turning point for India.
