Dear Bapu,
As a youth of this country, the country which you helped gain independence back in 1947, I would like to highlight certain issues that entangle modern India.
Corruption, violence, terrorism and many such have engulfed the sanctity of this nation. The people of this great country have forgotten the principles of non-violence (Ahimsa).
Sir, I would like to bring to your notice the burning issues in the north east region in India, the Maoist violence across India, the killing of so many people everyday.
What was supposed to be an integrated part of the mainland has been sidelined from mainstream politics for years that has culminated in turmoil and turbulence in the pristine nature’s paradise.
Corruption has entered the Indian politics. People have become more greedy and hungry for power, which has led them to squeeze the common people, and burden them with inflation and taxation.
The common people, whom you considered the most important part of the society, have now become the most neglected element in the society. The Aam Aadmi (common man) suffers all the burns on his back while the babus (a term we endearingly call our pot-bellied bureaucrats and politicians today) sit in their air-conditioned rooms, wagging their tails.
This is one of the saddest problems in today’s India; one that will bring doom for this country, sooner than later.
For that matter, the pandora’s box is being opened these days, with scams being unearthed one after another, never failing to shock us all. Thank god you are not there to witness this betrayal by our leaders, otherwise, how hurt you would have been by their alarmingly unjust barter with the people.
Another issue that threatens our country is terrorism and militancy. Terrorist groups have showcased their barbarity many-a-times on this Indian soil, killing and maiming thousands of innocent civilians across the country at various times. The lives of our people are apparently not precious enough as the security of our nation has several loopholes that can easily be manipulated by those who want to. Killing has become a joke now… the murderer does not even know his victim anymore. Even the masses measure a bomb by the number of people it managed to kill.
It is sad to see that the country whose father is the preacher of non-violence and sacrifice, is entangled in the chains of corruption, violence and terrorism.
Yours sincerely,
Dibyendu Mondal
