I stand at a little distance
And I see something from here,
A mystic city probably it is
That is what I see there
Simple architecture it has
Nothing extraordinary perhaps,
But still there is a lot
That my mind grabs
The air of this place
Seems to be familiar,
When the winds blow
They swiftly cross my ear
Anyone who has been here
Is surely to agree,
When I share that
Delhi is the place of thee.
Worship isn’t bounded by religion
This isn’t some mathematical identity,
But I believe from what I see
When people here worship freely
They don’t fear as to
What region people belong,
But happily converse with all
And relations last very long
It’s like an ensemble
Of different communities and sects,
They cross all the barriers
Whom this city collects
At workplace my friend
Maybe of some other region,
But we still hangout
Play, mingle and dine together
Whenever my taste buds rise.
I needn’t waste anymore time,
As the street shops satisfy me
Without crossing my budget line
I have my favorite corners
Where I go happily,
To enjoy the mouth watering food
Whenever I feel hungry
Also being a shopaholic
I love shopping in the city,
Only after buying various things
I halt my curiosity.
Every festival is celebrated
With lots of zeal and vigor,
And during the festive time
The whole city comes together
The shops have many offers
Heavy discounts, free gifts,
Which all people enjoy
With their family and friends
In the hustle bustle of the city
It is sometimes annoying,
When even small distances
At the end leave you tiring.
Traffic I agree
Is a real stress here,
But then I am sure
Of that Time will take care
We do have big roads
Which lay underneath,
Then we have flyovers
And subways that pass beneath
The city is huge
Rich or poor whoever it may be,
Has surely found a place
In this great city
Summers are sweaty and messy
Yet sometimes when,
The light falls upon me
I enjoy it then.
Where else does one get the feeling
To jump into the swimming pool,
And wear trendy accessories
So as to remain and feel cool
Another extreme is the winter
Which I love so much,
Sometimes I just lie in my bed
And enjoy movies on television
The haunting winds outside
Make me wear infinite things,
And there is warmth also
Which the sun brings
The evergreen spirits of the people
One doesn’t mind to work hard,
And to enjoy the evenings.
Once the discos parties start
It’s not just young
Children, adult and old,
People of all ages here
All are equally bold
There are slums and villages
Yet big houses and bungalows,
The city brings close
Many extremes I have known
There are petit small things
About this charming city,
Those have made a big place
In my heart for eternity.
Love is pure and deep
It accepts good and bad,
Those of you who have loved
I am sure will understand
My love for my city
Is also true and deep,
I know its amusements
And faults also I keep
I would surely not mind
To do all I can,
To make it better everyday
That’s the duty of every man
It’s very easy to feel
No one tries to cooperate,
It’s tough for many
To even join this parade
A sentence to explain it all
Dil waalon ka sheher dilli,
To this, I know like me
Even you would agree.
