With the board results out last month, the rat-race to get into Degree College has started. While, for some, the board marks are mere numbers to fulfil the eligibility criteria to sit in the entrances, for others these marks will pave way for the future. The big question is what to do and from where to do?
Delhi University, often touted as the temple of fun and learning, is the ideal institution for Delhiites as well as people from across the country. With sky high cut-offs in brand name colleges, students with even 95% marks are left disappointed. Counsellors and teachers deal with the same question each year: ‘If I don’t get my preferred course in my dream college, should I compromise with the course and go for the brand name?’ The answer to the aforementioned question is NO! Never compromise with the field of study! Here’s why:
• As Shakespeare had said, ‘What’s in a name?’: One must know that brand name is not because of the building, but because of what’s inside- The Students! There is no harm in wanting to study in a famous college, but loosing heart and then compromising with the subjects, can have adverse effect on the career.
• It’s the time for higher studies: Today, education is not about getting mere degrees or a diploma. Knowledge is endless. Majority of student go for higher education after their graduation, so the students need not worry about placements right after graduation.
In case one wants to go for it, there is a University Placement Cell for all DU students.
• The course of study is same: All the colleges are a part of the same university i.e., Delhi University. A few papers The subject the question paper is the same. Your success totally depends on your own calibre.
• The Number game: Many not-so branded colleges of Delhi University, particularly the off campus colleges boast of University ranks in almost all the fields of study.
• Every experience is a learning experience: While the brand name colleges have better facilities and reputation, the students might take things for granted. While, in lesser known colleges, one has to struggle sometimes. And real life is about struggle and hard work. A bonus lesson learnt right there!
• At the end, the Degree is the same: Most importantly every student of the Delhi University gets the same degree! If your knowledge base is strong, no one can stop you from reaching heights!
