India and Australia are champing-at-bit to face each other in the second semifinal of the World Cup 2015. We saw what happened in the first semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa. All 40,000+ fans present at the Auckland Cricket Ground witnessed the best encounter of the tournament till date. It certainly elevated the expectations from India-Australia encounter.
The entire world is ready to see, if it will be the 2011 World Cup Winner India or four-time world champion Australia that will take on New Zealand in the final. Australia has never lost a world cup semi-final, so has India under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. No team is favorite in the second semifinal. The one that can hold its nerves to the very last ball will rack up the match. From Indian team’s perspective, here are five players who can help it win the match-
Virat Kohli: No matter how ordinary he has looked in this tournament, nobody can keep him out of the radar in a match like this. He has won many matches single handedly in the past, and he can do it one more time. Kohli is a big match player, and it can be his day.
Shikhar Dhawan: He is the most consistent Indian batsman in this tournament. His ton against South Africa showed how firmly he could compose the innings and hit boundaries. Dhawan will look to continue his form against Australia as well.
Suresh Raina: He is getting better and better with every game. No matter if India will chase down a target or set one for the opposition, his role will be very important in the Indian middle-order. His six-hitting power can make a huge difference in this match.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: He was the one who hit the winning six at Wankhede Stadium in 2011 world cup final. He knows how it feels to be the hero of a match like this. Dhoni is most probably playing his last world cup, so he will surely try to win one more semi-final for India.
R. Ashwin: He has not taken as many wickets as Denial Vitory in this world cup, but SCG favors spin bowling, and he has everything India may ask for at a wicket like this. He can be trump card against Australia.
These players will certainly make a difference in the second semifinal of the tournament. If they, along with other Indian players can play up to their capabilities, then Australia will not be able to stop India from creating history at Sydney Cricket Ground.
