Sneak Peek

Sony has recently come up with a new mid sized series of VAIO notebooks – the CS series. They truly represent a blend of fashion and technology. In other words, they are as much about being pretty as being functional. Under the hood of this sleek notebook, you’ll find Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2 GHz Processor powered with Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (English Version). With the dimension of 335.8 mm x 29-39.8 mm x 245 mm and weight of  2.6 kg (including the supplied battery) it is slim and light weight.

Design

The screen is 14.1 (35.8 cm) wide with TFT Colour display (Clear Bright LCD Lite). Its mattle black color and stylish design add a touch of sophistication and the VAIO logo on top of the lid give it a bold confident look. The laptop comprises of 3 high speed USB 2.0 ports and along with an additional Ethernet port. There are two slots for memory cards. One slot is Memory Stick Pro compatible which is very useful for transferring data via other Sony devices such as Cybershot or a Handycam. The second slot is for SD memory card used primarily for data transfer via mobile phones. Another attracting feature is the LED panel in the base which glows whenever the lid is opened or closed or whenever external power supply is applied. The built in stereo speakers also give rich quality sound to enjoy your favorite music.

Key  Features

The notebook comes with a 1 GB DDR2 SD RAM. However, for best performance with Vista it is advisable to upgrade the RAM to 3GB. The increased RAM will also be fruitful in supporting the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD for enhanced movie HD playback and improved 3D gaming. The web camera on the front has effective pixels of 1280 x 1024 and provide some great resolution  during video conferencing.  VGP-BPS13/S Lithium-ion  battery is bundled with the notebook which ensures a sufficient running time of 3 hours. Sony also provides three optimised power modes which can be used for different combinations of  running time  and performance.  The storage space is of 160 GB  (which is low as compared to the competing models of Dell which offer 320 GB.)

Cutting Edge Technology

The layout of the keyboard is the most distinguished feature and I simply love it. The keys are water proof and are similar to Apple’s Macbook where in the hand space provided is very spacious which makes typing a pleasurable activity. The touchpad also works very proficiently without being over sensitive to touch. The included softwares consist of VAIO Recovery Center 1.4, Roxio Easy Media Creator 10.1, Adobe Reader 9,  a 90-day free trial of McAfee PC SecurityCenter and a 60-Day trial version of Microsoft® Office Professional and Mcafee’s anti virus software.

Conclusion

The notebook is ultra portable and blends style and performance together to give you optimum performance. The laptop comes with a one year International Sony warranty. It has  been three months since I bought my Sony Vaio VGN- CS12GH/B Laptop and today I can say this without any second thoughts that my investment proved to be total value for money.
