The Formula 1 carnival is here. Buddh International Circuit, inaugurated on  October 18, 2011 will host the inaugural Formula One Indian Grand Prix. I wasn’t a big Formula One fan but it coming to India has definitely caught my attention. The 1st practice session got over a few hours back and the excitement is sinking in now.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton just edged pass Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel to finish with the best time in the 1st practice session

The results were:

1. L.Hamilton: 1:26.836
2. S.Vettel: 1:27.416
3. M.Webber: 1:27.428
4. J.Button: 1:28.394
5. M.Schumacher: 1:28.531
6. N.Rosberg: 1:28.542
7. F.Massa: 1:28.644
8. A.Sutil: 1:28.705
9. S.Buemi: 1:29.219
10. K.Kobayashi: 1:29.355

What surprised me is that Telecom giants  Bharti Airtel  dumped a chance to sponsor T20 champions league to sponsor Formula One. Bharti Airtel’s main Market is India and considering the popularity of cricket in our Country, this is a huge step. It also shows that India is slowly and gradually adopting other world sports, which is fantastic.

F1 is a sports phenomenon that initially originated from Europe and went across the globe to become a rage. It today enjoys the cult following of a whopping 500 million plus fans. There are a lot of F1 fans in India too and now they’ll be able to witness the excitement live. As an Indian I’ll be rooting for the Sahara Formula 1 team and I hope they perform well.

The other thing, which I am looking forward to is the after- parties. The king of after parties Arjun Rampal will be hosting the after party. “It’s going to be an incredible setting. It has to be the best of everything because we got to show the world how we party,” Arjun said. Awesome arrangements have been made for aerial acts, multicuisine platters, free-flowing drinks and livewire music. And of course International pop star Lady Gaga will be in town. The F1 after-parties, to be held as part of the Airtel Grand Prix of India and will take place at a special, 20,000 sq ft construction at the Jaypee Greens Golf and Spa Resort in Greater Noida from Oct 28 to 30. We’ll get to see a lot of stars from B-town. It’s going to be a blast. I am excited! Are you?
