One of the most awaited films, Happy New Year is out with its official trailer. While many of us are still drooling all over Deepika’s stunning appearance in the trailer of Finding Fanny, Happy New Year only takes away the charisma that she gives out in the former. From the looks of the trailer, the film has only “losers” to offer. The movie is to be released this Diwali (Indian festival of lights) and has been anticipated for quite a while now.
The only thing that might come to the rescue of the producers is the star cast; Bollywood’s most loved actors – Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and Sonu Sood – will be seen playing the losers in the film. Having a background of films like Om shanti Om and Main Hoon Naa, one would expect the direction of Farah Khan to be brilliant but drawing from the trailer, Happy New Year is only going to make this Diwali a sad one.
The trailer being over three minutes long gives away almost the entire story line leaving no room for curiosity for the audience. The movie is about the six losers who are struggling through life. All six of them come together in a mission, or what I would call a flimsy attempt to turn their fortunes around by resorting to loot. Their mission is to ransack diamonds and in the process end up joining a dance competition. While we can notice a sincere effort to make the dialogues funny, it has materialised as nothing but poor comedy. The director has however sought to hit a “patriotic” chord of the audience by including the lyrics “India waale” (We Indians) as the theme song of the trailer.
We have surely seen Deepika at her best in films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Cocktail, and now the trailer of Finding Fanny also promises a great performance by the actress. Even in Happy New Year the actress playing the role of a Marathi dancer seems to have done better than the rest of the stars. Shahrukh Khan is loved by all, but it now appears that his performance is taking a tedious path.
Sonu Sood and Boman irani are known for their brilliant acting skills, we can only hope that they stick to this reputation of theirs as the trailer does not show any of the scenes that highlight each of their acting.
All in all, the movie from the looks of it appears to be another Tees Maar Khan which proved to be nothing than slow poison to the audience. Despite its poor showcase, the film is likely to perform well at the box office because of the film’s star cast; it is not an unknown fact that movies in India make it as blockbusters with feeble story line and glamorous actors.
