Interview with Arun Sharma:

Q. Why did you choose to become a Journalist?

Arun Sharma: From my childhood, I wanted to join either Police or Press. I wanted to do something for my country. I wanted to help in eradication of corruption from the society. My eyesight was weak, so I couldn’t join the Police. That’s how I became a journalist.

Q. What was your best career moment as a journalist?

Arun Sharma: I interviewed Mr. L K Advani in an RSS program for Sadhna TV. That was my first interview. To interview such a great personality at an early stage of the career, was a memorable moment.

Q. Why did you join “Dainik Prabhat”?

Arun Sharma: I wanted to switch from electronic media to print media because print media gives you more chance to writing. And being associated with a state level newspaper, I can do a lot of valuable work for my local community as well.

Q. What do you like the most about your job?

Arun Sharma: Journalism gives you the recognition in the society. Wherever you go, you don’t need to introduce yourself as people know you before. Also, it gives a chance to connect with so many kinds of people.

Q. What do you dislike about your job?

Arun Sharma: Media level has fallen drastically. We say it as the fourth pillar of “The Constitution of India”. But due to political influence media is running away from the truth. At personal level, we get no holidays, work is unlimited and there are no criteria – you need to work continuously.

Q. Has there been a moment in your career which could have been life threatening, as you do Criminal Reporting as well?

Arun Sharma: Yes. Once, there was an encounter going on in the industrial area of Haridwar and we had to cover it lively. There were firings going on from both sides. Somehow we were able to record it. That was one of the greatest achievements of my career.

Q. What kind of issues do you like to write on?

Arun Sharma: I like to write on every type of issues. I want freedom in my writing. I don’t want to limit myself to some particular areas. When you touch upon every kind of issues, then you develop as a more mature journalist as a whole.

Q. What are your future plans?

Arun Sharma: I want to join the politics after sometime. I really want to do something great for my country.

Q. How is the career growth in journalism?

Arun Sharma: It is very good. It depends upon your hard work, knowledge and interest. Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been a journalist early in his career. Now you can see what he has achieved. The starting salaries are low but the kind of work you get is amazing.

Q. Anything about yourself that people might not know about you, that you would like to share?

Arun Sharma: I have deep interest in astrology and face reading. I am quite knowledgeable about these subjects. You can say that it is like a God gift to me.
