The eagerly awaited Cricket season is back with a bang starting from March 12th which will be featuring 60 matches spread across 45 days at various places in India. As we all know that IPL is a always known for its grandeur whether its Bollywood or Advance technology similarly this time too they come up with a big surprise, in this IPL season 2010 which came with Chairman Lalit Modi’s revelation that IPL matches will be telecasted live i.e. also in 3D format! Another surprise is that all the matches will also be telecasted online live via Youtube for Free.
“We are going 3D… and we will be the first sporting body in the world to do so,” Lalit Modi, Chairman IPL, told Economic Times.
The last four crucial IPL matches i.e. semi finals, finals and matches for the second place- as an experiment will be in 3D format by UFO Moviez the official theater rights holder will show it across the theaters, pubs, bars and shortly on television too! Another surprise involves technology as they plan to use spidercams, again on an experimental basis in the last four matches. The spidercam according to Modi will roam around the ground and provide never before seen live images.
Futher adding to it the IPL- Google tie-up has been a landmark deal for the league. It is a most important decision taken by him in his entire life which is amazing. Google can approach any sporting event, like NBA or the EPL but instead they choose IPL for their first live sports broadcast on Youtube (Google’s video streaming channel).
The main motive behind it was to reach to as many viewers in the world as possible and this was only possible i.e. also in a best way is through Internet. The two year partnership with Google is like a boon as it will help IPL to reach across millions of viewers worldwide. As the matches will be live, viewers can forward/ rewind the matches and so on. Users will be able to create their own package of highlights and upload it on Youtube.
But the IPR will remain with The IPL itself. In the countries where television is the main source the rights sold to broadcasters, the matches will be aired with a maximum delay of five minutes and after match live telecast of IPL 2010 has been given to entertainment channel “COLORS” which will telecast the hot and happening after match parties and events connected with IPL.
The IPL merchandise goodies are also one of the attractions in this IPL season 3 as they have signed with Swiss watch brand, Brandelier, as the official watch licensee for the league. And the Google tie-up will help them to sell this merchandise globally, at the click of a button.
The IPL season 3 has gone on global platform with the spending of more than 40 percent as compared to last season.
