Want to visit a place where there is a blend of ancient culture and modern lifestyle? Then you must visit Chandigarh. Located near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas in northwest India, Chandigarh is the first planned city of India.
It shares its border with Punjab and Haryana. It is charecterised by square sectors and wide, well-maintained roads, properly maintained traffic signals. There is no problem of traffic here. Most of Chandigarh is covered by dense Banyan and Eucalyptus plantations.
MAJOR PLACES TO SEE

1. Rock Garden: It is situated between capital complex and Sukhna lake in Sector1. It can also be called as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden. The entrance leads to a magnificent open space decorated with statues made from wastes such as frames, metal wires, broken crockery and other industrial and urban waste.
This garden is full of such statues, which not only look beautiful but also give us the message that we have a responsibility towards our environment. As we go inside and inside we get to see a hall of mirrors and a small aquarium too.
2. Rose Garden: This garden is the largest of its kind in Asia. There are many varieties of rose in this garden. You can go for a walk in the garden savouring the fragnance of the flowers.
3. Sukhna Lake: This is a man-made lake. A very big and beautiful lake, it is one of the most picturesque lakes made by man. You can do boating or just go for a long walk along the lake in the fresh air.
And if you get tired you can sit by the lake. There are small stalls, which sell souvenirs, ice cream and much more. There are also some swings for children to enjoy. It is also a good place for bird lovers. In the evening the lake seems full of tourists and the local people.
MARKETS OF CHANDIGARH
Though there are some malls like Fun Republic in Chandigarh, but Sector 17 is the centre of attraction of the city. It is one of the largest markets in Asia. You can find branded shops of every item here- from watches to shoes to clothes and even books. Brands from Titan to Woodland, ShoeTree, Bata, Koutons, Archies, Levis almost every known brand is available here.
There is also a theatre here. Food joints, which appeal to your senses are also there if you want some snacks or even lunch. You will not face any problem of parking in Chandigarh as the markets of Chandigarh are charecterised by well maintained and spacious parking spaces.
