The title “Ironman” won by Indian model Milind Soman might leave you wondering about so many things, and in this process you can’t help but relate this title to Hollywood film, “Ironman”. While you begin thinking about the tough iron suit which the Ironman embodies in the film, here is an offshoot of reality- far away from imagery or filmed.
Milind Soman, continuing his passion for sports, was a national level swimmer before he was discovered as a model. Milind featured in a music video in the year 1995 called “Made In India”, and later bagged a role in a science fiction series, “Captain Vyom”. He acted in few films and during that time became one of the top models in India.
Milind has been a crucial part of many social causes, keeping the sportsman in him always ready for new challenges. In 2012 he bagged a place in the Limca Book of Records by completing a run of 1,500 km in a time period of 30 days. He achieved this feat while pushing forward the environment awareness campaign by NDTV named Greenathon. Under his guidance, Pinkathon 2012 was organized, which was India’s largest running event for women. His Twitter and Facebook pages have celebrated his initiatives very well.
Milind has maintained his zeal and fervor for adventurous activities under public gaze ever since he came to limelight. He didn’t leave the opportunity to become a part of a hit reality show on television, Khatron Ke Khiladi, in the show’s 3rd season. He had finished at 4th position in the show.
The 49-year-old daredevil completed the “Ironman Triathlon” challenge in 15 hours and 19 minutes. In this challenge he swum for a distance of 3.8 kms, cycled for 180.2 kms and ran for a stretch of 42.2 kms. This challenge was to be completed less than 16 hours.
It’s a proud feeling that an Indian has taken this leap, and his fans are gung-ho over his achievement. Time and again he has been taking part in sporting activities along with his fans, motivating them to remain healthy and fit. Milind is turning 50 this year and what better gift could he have given himself other than this title. He has well defined that age is but a number.
Here are some highlights from few of his past activities:
