“Is that ‘my’ name!!? OMG I’m famous!!!”
What is fame? The advantage of being known by people of whom you yourself know nothing, and for whom you care as little.
Fame in it-self, is something one craves for. A person, even in the modest mode of it, will always vote for himself, if allowed to choose with freedom. Life is a bit tricky; Success and fame might not be used in close association with each other or rather interchangeably. On the contrary, luck and fame can be mapped to a one-to-one correspondence. An ordinary person can turn into an extraordinary one, overnight if his luck and effort points into the right direction. Furthermore, a person toiling hard throughout his life might NOT achieve the desired results just because his luck didn?t guide him in the right direction. “Fame, we may understand, is no sure test of merit, but only a probability of such: it is an accident, not a property of a man.” But but but, there’s always a twist in the tale. People of late have lost their belief in the statement “There are no short cuts to success”, primarily because of a few drastic changes in the social structure or maybe we can say in the “Reality” module of today’s life.
Any guesses on what I am talking about?!
YES…The life changing (Uh Oh….is it?) Reality Shows, as they call it.
Folks, what I am specifically referring to out here is the “Nascent Fame” as is derived from the millions of Reality Shows, crowding the TV Channels throughout the year! Now why “nascent”?! Very simple, chemical compounds in their nascent state are quite dangerous to handle, some of them are hazardous too. So is the analogy with nascent fame. This “fame” will lift you to the height of expectations in a matter of seconds and throw you to the hard and harsh ground of reality in the next few seconds. And some “stupid” Fame-crazy freaks are always running behind this enticement. Dude, Fame and riches are fleeting. Stupidity is eternal.
So, the reality shows, as I was referring, might be apparently productive from the point of view of a couple of youngsters, who are on their way to “earn” early fortune, but in pursuit of unprecedented happiness, they lose a few primary aspects of life. Which aspects and how? Let’s put in our thoughts into this topic.
In this write-up, I will focus upon the “Singing Reality Shows”, which have promised to bring to the fore-front, the spirit of Indian Music- to create a new chapter in the history of Indian Music”. Hilarious!!! And this “Voice of the Country” will be decided by what? SMS, Votes- Or in short, PUBLICITY. Amazing grace it is!!
“Fame is the thirst of youth.”
No!! I am not thriving on absolute negativity in this respect.
Legends like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle have spoken about the wonderful scope that the entertainment channels have put forward to the young aspiring singers, to make a mark in the industry later on. The young talented singers no doubt deserve the opportunity and the platform to display what they really have in them …… are these really of any use?? What the judges stress upon, is a COMPLETE PACKAGE i.e. the singer must be a good performer as well!! I don’t think that it is a necessity. A singer should be a singer, in the true sense of its implication.
We don’t want a “jack of all trades and a master of none.” Then why divert a monk form his devotion?!
Talking about the Aftermath- Is it that the singers are satisfied with just a couple of songs in a recent film or just one album in the following year of their contract?! Then the whole concept behind these reality shows is lost. It’s like fast food or T20 cricket or even “The Use and Throw” Principle, in a cliché! I feel that the use of Playback Mode of selection is the best, if you really want “quality at your disposal. Get them into a studio, record their voices and just let the experts decide… Screw the voting guys! It’s merely Favouritism! Winning a competition is no longer just talent, but the way you portray yourself: Maybe in the form of a sentimental speech, a sudden burst of tears or an extremely touching background. Hilarious again. There is no scope of “compromise” with talent.
This holds for the “KIDS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS” as well. These kids, if they achieve everything in life (a Chevrolet Spark for an example), at an EARLY age of 10, the hunger or the motivation to do better, will be lost forever!
“The talent of success is nothing more than doing what you can do well, and doing well whatever you do without thought of fame. If it comes at all it will come because it is deserved, not because it is sought after. Wake up India!!
Change your way, and recognise talent. Recognise passion and acknowledge them. To all fame crazy mortals out there please do remember that
“Fame is a bee. / It has a song / It has a sting / Ah, too, it has a wing.”
