Nexus 6: A Comparison With Its Predecessor

Google took out its Android One in India about a month ago as a smartphone option in the lower price range; India became the first country to find Android One in the market. Soon the company is to release the latest of it Nexus series that will be available in a higher price range.

Google is set to launch its Nexus 6 in the coming days. Official price of the smartphone in India has been revealed to be set at Rs. 44,000 for the 32GB phone, while 64GB will be sold at Rs. 49,000. As the official prices are launched, it is being speculated that Nexus 6 will hit the market sometime this very month.

While Nexus 5 was distributed in collaboration with LG, Nexus 6 is being manufactured by Motorola. With almost all companies coming all out with phablets, Google has also increased the size of Nexus 6 significantly to 6 inches as compared to the 5 inches screen of its predecessor.

Apart from the development to its size, Nexus 6 is to come with a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera; Nexus 5 featured an 8 and 1.3 megapixel rear and front capture respectively.

Battery life of the smartphone has also been sought for improvement as the company claims talk-time life of 24 hours as against 17 hours of Nexus 5.

Apart from these, here are other additional features that come with Google Nexus 6:

  • The smartphone has a QHD display.
  • Nexus 6 will run in the latest version of Google’s Android i.e. Android 5.0 Lollipop.
  • The phone will be available in two colours – midnight blue and cloud white.
  • Camera of Nexus 6 comes with a dual LED flash and also features autofocus, face detection, digital zoom, panorama capture and optical image.

Google Nexus 5 had performed exceedingly well in the Indian market; the price was comparatively lower than what has been fixed for Nexus 6. However, till the smartphone does not hit the markets it will be difficult to predict its performance; Apple iPhone 6 is already been doing rounds in the market with its reputation as “the best smartphone for the current generation”. Samsung’s new releases are also putting up a great show in the markets; BlackBerry Passport is being reviewed as the company’s comeback.

With a plethora of choices, it will be difficult to speculate as to how the consumers will react to Nexus 6. But if one were to evaluate it on basis of the success of Nexus 5, then it is most likely that this new smartphone will be a hit as well.
