Last chance for the ‘Big 5’ to show their worth.
The Indian Cricket team is off to Australia for their tour ‘Down Under’ which begins next week. The four-match series could well be the last test tour to Australia for India’s batting greats Sachin Tendulkar , VVS Laxman , Sourav Ganguly , Rahul Dravid and the bowling legend Anil Kumble. It’s the last chance for India’s ‘Fab 5’ to showcase their class and clinch a test series in Australia, something which has never been done before by India.
India came close to winning a test series in Australia on two occasions in the past- in 1986 when the series ended 0-0 and the other in 2003-04 when it was drawn 1-1 after India went 1-0 up in Adelaide. India couldn’t convert that great opportunity into a series win, thanks to some poor fielding by the then wicket keeper, Parthiv Patel. This time around the Indians are eager to break the jinx and win a test series on Australian soil, a dream for any cricketer.
This year seems to be great for Indian cricket with India winning its first test series in England for 21 years in August followed by the inspirational test series win against Pakistan this month after 27 years. The series against Pakistan saw almost all the Indian batsman in form, something which will help India cope up with the fast and experienced Australian bowling attack. India on the other hand, are taking two inexperienced bowlers in Ishant Sharma and the debutant Pankaj Singh in the five man pace attack.
The series would be all about the Indian batsmen vs the Australian bowlers. With all the ‘big 5’ in form, Indian fans can hope a series win this time around.
