Oh Beautiful Silence

Fiction | February 7, 2008 | Share

It wasn’t the words that were harsh,

But their weight.

Then the dam developed cracks, slowly giving way,

Little water seeping through cracks

So you looked back,

Am I to feel gratified?

I never told you how to live your life,

To have my life under scrutiny,

My ideas, everything I say and do,

To toss it aside

It was enough to drive anyone insane.

To toss the fact aside, as though it were nothing.

For future reference,

General, your tongue, is a powerful weapon.

I liked the starting lines a lot. However your last line very strongly reminds me of a poem we had in our english lit. last year, I think Brecht’s poem on war. Is that deliberate, an allusion perhaps? :-)

i agree.. the use of “general”. if it is deliberate, then very nice usage:)
