Psychology is one field which borrows and contributes to every single field and section of life. Some say it is a science while some treat it as an art, but conclusion states that it is neither a science nor an art. It can therefore be defined as a profession which studies and deals with the human behavior and its functions.
The mental health statistics show that more than 70 percent of the Indian population suffers from some or the other sort of mental illness. What is disappointing is that the government hardly takes any measures to develop the field of psychology thereby giving it a very demeaning image. The fact that more than half of our population needs treatment shows and determines the immense scope for a psychologist in India.
Psychology is a diverse field and finds its strings attached to almost every profession. Psychology can find a role in institutions such as schools and colleges, offices, industries and HR firms. It is also used in counseling. It is therefore evident that wherever there would be people, there would be psychology. Psychologists are trained to have a deeper understanding of the human behavior and its limitations. Some people have a natural flair of psychology and tend to develop a deeper perspective of things just by experience from life and innately know how to connect with people. While some enthusiasts go through proper courses and training to become a psychologist. One requires to do a Bachelors in Psychology and then an M.Phil/Ph.D (masters in psychology) to establish oneself as a known psychologist.
Psychology is not an easy subject to learn and it takes at least 6 to 7 years to complete all the courses but at the same time, unlike a dentist or an engineer, the maturity of a person plays a bigger role than the certificates in hand. Psychology is mostly about helping people, and usually people enter this profession with an inclination towards social causes. However one can also earn a lot of money if one is able to establish a brand.
Emotion illness can be related to a common viral. Just like a person can easily fall sick and can also be easily treated by medicines given by a proper practitioner, various kinds of emotional sickness can also be treated by removing the stigma in peoples’ minds.
