23 Rape And The City

Switch on your television sets, scroll through your news
channels, and bang on! Every second news shows a new rape case in the tinsel
town. The first three months of 2012 have been butchered under a series of abducting reports and sexual acts happening in the city.

The sad part is that while all this has been happening, the law makers have been sitting on the side of the
road and watching the melodrama. Talking about the citizens, they are least
expected to help anyone. The year began with a case of a women being molested on New Year’s eve by a group of warm blooded beasts and one knew how this year is going to pan out. The count was not that high
in the month of January, but there was a sudden rise in the number of cases
 being reported in February.

A 16 year old minor was raped by a group of three friends in
Rishikesh, the case is still pending and the girl is waiting for justice. Is the city genuinely precarious for women or should women take these things for granted and accept it as a part of life. While the pot bellied cops could do nothing on
time to show that they are actually saviors of law , another case of a
15 year girl was reported in New Ashok Nagar where  her step father was accused of
raping her for the past two years. The unfortunate incident might distress many of
us, but no strong action is ever taken against such offenses. The
crooks are painted black in the public and are freed the very next moment,
thanks to the weak judicial system in our country.

On the 19th of February 2012, an 11 year old minor was raped by wardens of Arya Anatahlya, an orphanage home. Is the system
too frail to take the least possible measure against such unlawful acts? Is a
sum of a few lakhs enough to calm the pain of the victims?  The water crossed its brim when 3 cases of
rape were reported in a single night. Is it too easy for the beasts to pull any
girl in their car and harass her? Many suppress the voice, threatening
to kill them if they utter a word to the authorities. The capital has a long known history in the
case of rape. In fact, Delhi
has reported the most number of rape cases in recent years. The blot has brought
shame to city, and is regarded as one of the most unsafe cities of the country.

The felony has become a normal sin for the Delhites who read such news everyday
in the newspaper, and digest the bitter truth of the city without any hiccup. A set
of conformist say that women are themselves responsible for such incidents.
They think the more they show their flesh, the more they are vulnerable of being harassed. Completely illogical in my opinion and has been proven wrong by many studies.
Even news channel have taken such incidents as a light pill and such stories are flashed
in the shortest possible time. A sense of insecurity has developed
among the woman folk and they think twice before stepping out late at night., A fear now lingers within them while walking on open
 roads

People have begun
taking things for granted and have lost their hopes of betterment. Adjustment
is the key to existence; else you might be hunted down at any moment.

It is easy to say things by being on this side of table, but
it is difficult to bear the pain if we were the one at the receiving end.
