The year that started pretty well for the Indian Badminton player Saina Nehwal doesn’t seem to have a good end to it.
Not only did she create history by being the first Indian to win a medal in badminton, and that too in the Olympics, but she also achieved other titles in this year.
In June 2012 she won the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold defeating her opponent Ratchanok Inthanon in three sets. She also reclaimed her title at the Indonesian Championship which she had won in the years 2009 and 2010 too.
And that’s not all; she also bagged the Swiss Open title by defeating World’s second best Badminton player, Wang Shixian of China.
It was just last week when she won the Denmark Open Super Series by beating Wang Yihan in the semi- finals.
Maybe it was just that. Saina was too tired of winning so many titles throughout the year that she finally decides to lose last night. Yes you guessed it right; Saina Nehwal suffered a defeat to the Japanese shuttler Minatsu Mitani in the French Open Super Series.
Saina started off the game well with a lead of 6-3 but Minatsu caught up to her and won the set 16-16.
Minatsu seemed to have used her cross coat smashes and drops to beat the Indian Badminton player. In no time she had achieved the match point 20-11 and it was all over for Saina.
Saina failed to achieve her back to back titles after the win in the Denmark Open Super Series. Let’s see how the year 2012 ends for Saina, will she have more victories to her credit? Or is this the start of her defeats? What do you think?
