Sania Mirza: The Daughter Of Pakistan?

When it comes to national pride, we Indians are ever ready to react. So when Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, who is married to a Pakistani cricketer was declared to become the ambassador for the newly formed Indian State of Telangana, reactions ensued.

Following this announcement, a political leader from Telangana has branded Sania as Pakistan’s daughter-in-law. After which, tennis star condemned the leader’s comment by saying, “I am Indian, I will always remain one.”

In the meanwhile, it appears that many Indians have forgotten that Sania has represented India in the international tennis platform. Even after her marriage with Shoaib Malik, Sania has continued to play as an Indian. So when she becomes the target of such kind of comments, it seems that she is known more for her cross-border marriage, rather than for her achievements and the many laurels she has brought home to the country.

Here are some of the reactions Twitter users are letting out:

One can only decide his or her own life partner, but it surely isn’t fair that the entire nation be granted the freedom to express their views on a celebrity’s life choices because of their image as a public figure. Instead, shouldn’t we be bothered about Telangana branding itself by shelling off one crore to Sania?
