Serena Named This Year’s Sportsperson, And Much Ado About Neigh-Thing

In a hilarious series of events, what is supposed to be a marking point of Serena Williams career turned out to be an extremely popular topic on the social media and for reasons other than what you think.

Serena Jameka Williams is considered to be the greatest woman tennis player that the world has ever seen. She holds four Grand Slam women’s doubles titles and has been ranked No. 1 in singles for six times. She had a smashing year throughout 2015 by winning WTA-high five titles. Because of her fabulous performance, Sports Illustrated has named her as the ‘Sportsperson of the Year’. She’s the first ever black woman to feature on the cover. Sports Illustrated chose a female athlete to be on the cover after a long gap of 30 years.

She appears on the December issue of Sports Illustrated looking gorgeous as ever.

And it turns out that people have misunderstood the “Sportsperson’ title as the “Sports-animal’ title! As soon as the issue was out for the whole world to see, William’s fans seemed ecstatic but the feeling wasn’t shared by the horse racing fans.

Yes, you saw what you saw! Serena William’s achievement is being condemned by American Pharoah fans, for they believe that the racehorse deserves the title more than she does.

American Pharoah is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He has won the American Triple Crown as well as the Breeder’s Cup Classic in 2015. He is also the first horse to win the ‘Grand Slam’ of American horseracing. Pharoah took the horse racing world by storm and gained quite a few admirers who seem to be furious with Williams as well as SI.

William’s fans retaliated with full force to these objections; some even called this controversy to be a result of ‘racism’ due to her ethnicity.

Another controversy that came up regarding William’s feature on the SI magazine is the people on social media posting comments about her allegedly photoshopped thighs in the cover photograph.

Clearly, quite a lot of people have forgotten the art of appreciation. Nevertheless, Serena seems unshaken by all these controversies as she posted on her Facebook page that the ‘Sportsperson of The Year’ title has instilled a massive amount of confidence in her.

We congratulate Serena with all our heart for proving her mettle as an athlete and for being an incredible public figure in 2015. We wish her a spectacular career ahead.

Williams will also appear on the 2016 Pirelli calendar.

As for the horse, we think he’s still got some catching up to do!
