The Avengers: A Review

The Avengers is a movie based on the famous comic book writer Stan Lee’s comic book series with the same name.

The Avengers is a team of superheroes brought together to save the Earth and human race at large from the impending danger. The team includes Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Each character is shown to carry on with his or her life and is then called together by Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., an international peace keeping agency.

He had previously tried to bring together the six as the “Avengers Initiative” but the concept didn’t work out. As the group is being formed, not everybody is willing to accept the proposal to join it. Fury has to go as far as India to get hold of all the superheroes.

All the major characters have their individual movies too (which I have named later). These individual movies give a backup story to The Avengers.

The characters pretty much retain their basic personality and that’s the USP of the movie.

Iron Man is as amazing, crazy and epic as we have seen in the two movies, Iron Man and Iron Man 2. He is the guy with “chill the pep, bro” kind of attitude. He is the self proclaimed “genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist.” With all expressions and his body language, Robert Downey Jr. gives life to his character.

Thor, the crowned prince of Asgard, in fact looks like a Greek god. He has a body to die for, great personality and a hammer with power (which is so cool!).

He is the god of thunder and lightning, and uses it to save the planet. While the others are fighting against evil, Thor is fighting Loki, his own brother and the person who is the “bad guy” so to speak. They were also seen together in the movie Thor.

Since Loki has been thrown out of Asgard, he is planning on building his empire on Earth with the help of the underworld forces.

Captain America (from the movie Captain America) is a World War II veteran (who came up to uphold the American spirit, exactly like James Bond did for England) with highly enhanced physical prowess.

In the 21st century, when we have Iron Man with an armour full of surprises, Spiderman with amazing ninja skills and Batman, the badass king of the night, I found Captain America a bit outdated.

Dr. Banner is the scientist who gets affected due to over exposure to the gamma rays and transforms into a monster, Hulk (from The Ultimate Hulk).

Banner is sort of sensitive but when he gets angry, he transforms into the Hulk, who can and will kill anybody and everybody that comes in his path.

Black Widow shows some breathtaking action. She is a highly trained and a skillful spy who works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and is a significant part of the team.

Though she does not have any superpowers, she is in the movie to fight and does her job tremendously. Her long time partner Hawkeye is also a part of the movie and they share a decent relationship. Together they prove themselves to be superlative warriors, fit to be in the Avengers team.

For people who are into superhero action this movie has a lot to entertain you.

I mean when a single movie has Greek gods, Iron Man, angry Hulk and Loki’s army from the underworld, what else can you expect?

The Avengers also tickles your funny bone. There are several scenes where you just can’t stop laughing.

My personal favourite scene from the movie is the one where Loki says “I’m God, kneel before me” and in response, Hulk beats the shit out of him.

The Avengers is a classic combination of characters from Greek Mythology, and of Stan Lee’s own creation, juxtaposed against the modern world.

If you haven’t watched this one already, you’re missing out on the superhero life. The Avengers is absolutely a must watch.
