The Devil Wears Prada

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, the movie is fashionable, stylish and trendy. Released in 2006, it is set in two fashion capitals of the world: New York and Paris. Playing Miranda Priestly, Meryl Streep truly showcases the quintessential evil boss at the world’s most fashionable magazine: Runway, where an interest in fashion is of utmost importance.

Andreah Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway is a recent college graduate who aspires to become independent and write for ‘The New Yorker’. But to acquire experience, she decides to try her hand at Runway. Even though she seems out of place and doesn’t have a niche for fashion, she is hired as an assistant for the editor-in-chief not knowing what she is signing up for. Andreah graciously accepts the ‘job a hundred girls would die for’ and the drama begins to unfold.

What she doesn’t know is that her boss is the most feared and powerful woman in the fashion industry. She is intimidating, ambitious and is known as the ‘Career obsessed Dragon lady’ by tabloids. The unachievable tasks she assigns are quite amusing, from attaining the unpublished Harry Potter manuscript to getting her airlifted out of Miami!

Soon Andy discovers the true identity of her boss and struggles to be in her good books. She decides to overcome all the problems in her life and do something about it. One day after being mocked and laughed at, she decides to upgrade her wardrobe and is magically transformed into a fashionista.

Gradually she understands what a dress, shoe, belt or handbag represent and embraces fashion wholeheartedly. Size zero suddenly seems very appealing to her. But her changing identity and improving work life cause her to lose her friends and creates problems for her at home. Doing chores, running errands and forming new connections are all that her career entails. Will Andy realise what to do with her life before it is too late? Will her friends and family forgive her?

The characters are very well chosen and fit in perfectly. Emily Charleton, played by Emily Blunt did a wonderful job portraying the first assistant, who would do anything for Miranda. Meanwhile, the employees at Runway make running around in high heels seem fresh and unique. Each character in this movie comes close to someone you know and represents a whole range to choose from.

The director makes us connect with this film that is ultimately about taking responsibility and discovering your true identity and who you really are. The message ttha The film gives out several messages, one of them being that you can achieve anything your heart desires if you believe in yourself.

This chick flick stars costumes by the famous stylist Patricia Field and showcases the latest and most glamorous pieces of clothing. A fashion enthusiast will feel like a little child let loose in a candy store. The soundtrack features various hit singles by K T Tunstall and Madonna.

From the closet the size of several apartments, to its luxurious and elegant sets, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ will inspire you to upgrade your own wardrobe! By the end of this movie, a shopping spree will seem very appealing. This movie is a must watch for all those girls who love to be stylish and glamorous!
