Beaches, beauty, beer and bliss – this is Goa!

Goa is divided into two parts – North and South. While South Goa is less commercialized and meant mostly for residential and work purposes; North Goa is THE destination for those on vacation. The options in North Goa are immense when it comes to stay. From the likes of Taj Hotel to guest houses and very cheaply priced shacks, stay is never an issue in Goa whatever be your budget.

For an ideal vacation in Goa, one must wake up early morning and visit the nearest beach for the morning bare foot jog. After an hour of jogging, ideally one should come back to the place of stay, freshen up and leave for a morning breakfast at any beachside restaurant. Hitting the beach around noon for a tan, lying on the sun beds and treating yourself a good vegetable lunch on the sun beds is really rewarding to the day’s schedule. Beach swimming and water sports should be left for post 4pm schedule. The day ideally wraps at one of the pubs in Goa or with a dinner at the beach.

Some destinations not to be missed while in Goa are Baga beach, Arambole beach, Calangute beach. For the adventurous ones, try reaching the Paradise beach which is along the borders of Maharashtra-Goa. This is one deserted beach and a must for a ‘beach person.’ An English Breakfast at any of the shacks followed by lunch at Brittos is the apt combination. Casino cruises, although expensive but should be tried at least once. However, one should never go alone or with your partner to such cruises. Cruise is fun only with a group of fun-loving friends. The Anjuna Flee Market every Saturday night is the best if you are lucky enough to pay a visit on a Saturday night. Fort Aguada, Aguada Central Jail and Aguada beach is a combination for an early evening. Although one isn’t permitted to visit the Jail there but the bike ride is worth an experience.

Shopping in Goa can be pure pleasure. Bargains are heavy and goods are worth the bargain effort. Renting a bike for as cheap as Rs. 200 a day is the best mode of transport in Goa as there are no public transport facilities available except for buses.

Reaching Goa can never be a problem. Since it is publicized to no limits as a tourist destination, there are ample number of buses, trains and flights reaching Goa every day. However, reservation on any of these modes of transport can be an issue during the holiday season which lasts from November-early January.
When in Rome, live like Romans! Try everything that you wouldn’t in your lifetime. Goa offers fun for men, women and children equally with its fascination beaches, serene nature and thrilling nightlife! Of all the things, water sports are a must for every visit to this beautiful state. Do not hesitate to bargain heavily while negotiating for water sports!

If you want to spend time at the best beaches and get yourself prepared for yet another gruelling schedule at work, Goa is the place to unwind! Mini extended weekend vacations in Goa are good, provided you know all the right places however, for the first timers, it is highly recommended for a longer period!
